Remarkable Women Podcast: Tammy Bjelland

tammy bjellandTammy Bjelland. is a remarkable women who has made the journey from the world of academia into the entrepreneurial space.

She currently lives in Winchester, VA. after living abroad in Spain for a time. She owns a business, Language in Bloom, a learning solutions company that specializes in instructional and curriculum design and a task-based approach to talent development. It evolved from a language school to a learning solutions company serving both academic and business spheres.

During our podcast, Tammy shares some of the obstacles women face in their entrepreneurial journey. We talk a lot about money and pricing and the importance of having confidence in your monetary value.

Tammy is full of creative energy and has sought to grow in many ways. As a success tip, she suggests to find a very select few  female entrepreneurs whom we admire and could learn from, but whose work is not similar. We should reach out and make a connection.

Tammy cautions, though, to beware, especially with women to keep ourselves from falling into the comparison trap. Tammy even offers a short, free e-course called Imposter Syndrome Detox to help women from getting caught in that comparison trap.

I am always looking for inspiration and thoroughly loved hearing about where Tammy seeks out her own. You’ll have to listen to the Podcast to hear how she uses Unsplash as a daily source for inspiration! Tammy also enjoys watching The Profit, a series chronicling Marcus Lemonis, a savvy successful billionaire as he helps struggling entrepreneurs catalyze their businesses through capital and mentorship.

I think you will all enjoy listening to Tammy’s story and hearing her passion and drive for growth and impact.

Remarkable Women Podcast: Kelly Clark

kelly clarkI really enjoyed getting to meet with entrepreneur and homeschool mom, Kelly Clark. She is a remarkable woman who is passionate about inspiring people and organizing events that catalyze growth and impact. She believes we should all be learning and growing to strive and do new things.

Kelly shares about her journey in starting two businesses: Exploring Families, coordinating field trips for families and Events on Fire, coordinating events and conferences for Entrepreneurs.

I loved hearing her share especially about the “growth mindset,” as discussed in Mindset by Carol Dweck. It is something I personally believe in strongly. Kelly shares how many of us, even as adults can get stuck in a “fixed mindset,” not allowing ourselves to be open to challenges. It’s important as women – both for ourselves and for our children – that we understand the power of a growth mindset so that we can step into big things. She uses ideas learned from the book, The Miracle Morning to prioritize important habits.

It was neat to hear about how Kelly used a challenge in her own business to grow and publish her first eBook! Today you can find her in Spokane, WA working on many projects, including TedX – another personal favorite of mine!

Remarkable Spaces

make your own sanctuary

I always find it fascinating when I am in my office working and am either emailing or talking to someone in another state or town. I often wonder, “What does their work space look like?”

Does it reflect the type of person they are? Do they even have an opportunity to have that flexibility to design that space for themselves in their work environment? Do they realize the importance of how much a great space could impact their mood or their work performance?

office space

I know for me it is very important to feel comfortable in my work space. I am at work well over 40 hours a week, so it needs to be a place that I want to come to everyday. If my morning hasn’t started off just right, and I know I have a long day at work, I want the space that I created to help overcome the setback.

I do this by hanging my favorite quotes on my walls. One of the most special days in my life was when I got married to my husband and loved spending the day with all of our family, so I have wedding photos hanging in my office. The color of my walls are a calm, crisp light cream, so it feels inviting. This is why I cover it with everything that reflects who I am. In the same way, you must make that space belong to you. Your favorite colors, memories, and unique style.

It is just as important to me to create my own personal space in my home. Your space could be an entire room or a section of a room – your corner of calmness. Choose an area that others won’t be walking through. I prefer natural light and a window with a view. I mentioned above it is important that I feel comfortable, so make the space you create feel comfy.

Design your area with an object that means something to you. Choose the right accents. You do not want to clutter your space. You want your space to feel open. This will allow for you to be open for new things to be created. Include a plant that will freshen the air and brighten your mood.

If you are wanting to create a remarkable space for yourself or looking for a great place to get inspiration, you can search houzz.com and see design layouts such as this one and purchase the accents that are highlighted.

There is something we all need, a place where we can let our imaginations run wild.”

I would love for you to share a picture of your space with me. Tweet me a picture!
