Tina Corner is a Remarkable Woman living in the DC area. She is the founder of LX Council, a company that specializes in coordinating Peer Advisory Groups for C-Suite Executives and Owners around the country. She has a passion for helping owners find that place where they can share their struggles in a safe environment for constructive feedback and encouragement.

Tina shares her career story of how she started Leadership Exchange Council after growing and selling a franchise of peer advisory groups geared more toward closely held firm owners. Growing up on a farm in rural Missouri herself, and watching her dad being in charge of his own destiny gave her great inspiration to chart her own path as well.

Tina shared how most owners feel pretty alone. They are always giving out – to employees and to vendors, etc, but they need ways to receive new energy for themselves. When they come to the Peer Advisory Group meetings, they can know that they are not alone, and they do not feel judged. They benefit most when they can be honest and real, as they will receive the greatest clarity.

As a business owner, I was fascinated and inspired by our whole conversation. I have come to personally see the value in seeking out other business owners as peer advisors who are not even necessarily in my industry. We share common experiences and appreciate the insights and perspective gleaned from each other.

Listen in to our Podcast to hear about one of the obstacles Tina faced and overcame within her career. She learned an important lesson about “Speaking Up” for her own value in a way that was well-received. She had an executive advisor who coached her through the process, and proved to be invaluable.

Tina’s personal mission is quite inspiring:

“Seize each day in developing my own potential and developing the potential in others.”

She does this by seeking knowledge and motivation regularly through reading Business Publications like Success Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, and the Podcast MWF Motivation, in addition to listening to the stories and struggles of her own clients. She learns a great deal from them and loves seeing them benefit from connecting with other peers.

Tina has written a book, Sit Down! Speak Up! Cash Out! Which shares more about the value of Peer Advisory groups. You can find it on her website and also find other articles and info from Tina via LinkedIn. She would love to connect with you.

Remarkable Connections in Summer

FullSizeRender 5.jpg

As much fun as it is to go off on summer adventures around the world, it can be just as memorable to stay close to home with the ones you love and take advantage of those long, lazy sunny days. Find a porch and a friend, grab a mimosa or glass of lemonade, and settle in to a cozy conversation, catching up about the busy year.

Most of us run at 90 miles an hour during the year, juggling work, family, exercise, school, and volunteering.  It can be exhausting! Summer is perfect for taking that time to be refreshed and restored – to reconnect with our family and friends in a way that we can’t when we are just running from one place to the next.

Don’t let this time pass you by! Put dates on the calendar for yourself and your kids if they are at home with you. Meet at a lake or pool, and let the kids get lost in play for hours while you connect with your bestie.

Some things you can make sure to touch base about:

  1. How’s your health? As we get older, it seems like there is always something big or little that’s nagging at us. Most of try to figure it out on our own or play it off to be no big deal. But usually these things don’t just affect us physically, but emotionally as well. Take time to ask and really listen, offering help where you can.
  2. How is your family? No one likes to admit when they are having “issues” as a wife or mom. But let’s be honest. Relationships are messy, even with the ones we love the most. It usually helps to talk about things with a friend before they feel too overwhelming. Be that voice of encouragement, perspective, and wisdom for a friend, and accept it if that’s what you need yourself.
  3. How’s your heart? “What have you been learning about? What new things are you up to? What does the next year look like for you and how can I help?” – are all great questions to ask. These are the fun things to talk about that we usually don’t get to share in passing between soccer practice or PTA meetings.

IMG_3454These questions can all certainly be answered with “fine.” But if we settle for that, we miss out on those remarkable conversations that happen when we really take the time to slow down and dig deep. That’s what summer can do for you if you let it! Make it remarkable for yourself, family, and friends.

Remarkable Adventures

Summer is the best time to let down our hair and take advantage of the season of travel that the typical school cycle affords us. Most people experience an eagerness and yearning for freedom when June rolls around, regardless of our age.

When younger, I would enjoy those long summer hours, swimming and playing outside with friends, creating our own storylines and exploring new places around my home. Now as an older woman, I look forward to travel all around the world with my family and friends. Currently, I am exploring Rome and Italy!

There’s just something about travel that makes us feel REMARKABLE. I think because we are out of our normal, typically mundane life and work, and living eyes wide open to new places, people, foods, and experiences. We get a bigger perspective on our own little piece of the world and ideally some inspiration we can take home to adopt into our way of living.

We tend to approach each morning on a vacation with the attitude of, “What am I going to get to do and see today?!” It’s always a positive expectation.

So, if you can make it happen, I’d recommend making travel a high priority in your life. Even if it’s a weekend day trip to a local State Park, Historic Site or new glamping spot – it’s worth the effort to block off the time on your calendar and hit the road. I bet you will feel refreshed, restored, and more remarkable than ever!

Inspirational Wall Art for Women

remarkable_collection_grande_b56aecaa-26e7-499a-ac42-7d0455305adc_grande__49520.1478115195.500.659When I first saw the hand-lettered wooden scripture signs sold by Leslee Matthews (Signs of Abundant Life on Instagram and Etsy), I knew I had to have one. Leslee produces these beautiful signs with her own hands. That includes hand-cutting the wood; staining, sanding, and painting it; meticulously hand-lettering it, and finally, rubbing it with a finishing wax.

As Leslee says, “I am intimately involved every step of the way and it is a huge investment of love!”

I immediately identified with that sentiment and knew that these signs would fit right into in my Remarkable Women Store. I had long been on the hunt for an inspiring, positive, and meaningful piece that women could give to one another; Leslee’s creations checked each of those boxes!

I connected with Leslee and the Remarkable Women Wall Art Collection was born. We came up with four pieces designed to be displayed either as a set or individually. With remarkable women in mind, we created something that inspires each day by reminding us who we are and what is most important in life.

I wanted this collection to be something you could buy for yourself or as a special gift for the women in your life—friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, colleagues, mentors, and so on.

The Strength and Dignity Large Wood Sign features one of my favorite quotes in gold lettering: “She is Clothed with Dignity and Laughs Without Fear of the Future.” I think this is a great reminder for us all to keep this attitude in life— eager and optimistic for the future, strong and courageous inside.

The three smaller signs, which are each 3.5 by four inches, feature the words “Be Grateful,” “Be Remarkable,” and “Be a Dreamer,” respectively. My favorite, as you could probably guess, is the Be Remarkable Small Wood Sign. We are all remarkable, and yet we often need to be reminded to live into that reality intentionally—especially on days when life feels either mundane or overwhelming.

No matter which one you pick, these messages make unique gifts for friends or colleagues; give them for birthdays, a new home or new job, or just as a thoughtful surprise. My wall art collection is also a wonderful way to treat yourself. Hang one of the small signs in the bathroom to help you greet the day, or cluster a few of them on your desk at work.

Better yet, buy the whole collection and hang it over your bed for some much needed self-assurance both day and night.

I’m so grateful to Leslee for making the Remarkable Women wall art collection possible. We hope that these pieces bring you and your loved ones the inspiration and joy that they have brought us!
