IMG_9086Bahar Picariello is a Remarkable Woman living in Sterling, VA. She is a woman who has overcome many challenges and cares deeply about helping other women do the same. She does it all! She owns her own business and homeschools her two children – all as a single mom! She is the first to say that it requires great sacrifice and lots of hard work, but she cares enough to make it happen.

She knows what it’s like to have the rug ripped out from under you and can understand the challenges other women may be facing. Bahar is able to come alongside and help individuals rebuild and figure out how they can make their life better, even after hitting rock bottom.

She is known as a professional make-up artist and image consultant, but even deeper than that, she really seeks to help women get to the core of who they are so that they can feel confident in allowing their true personalities to shine. She wants women to feel comfortable in their own skin and to know which tools they can use to present themselves in the best way possible. We all know that this confident aura affects the way opportunities unfold for us.

Bahar gave us an awesome success tip that made me want to take action right away! Have you ever had someone suggest a fabulous idea, but life “got too busy” to really do anything about it? She would say, “Don’t let that happen again!” If we really want to see growth and change in our lives, we have to be willing to seek out the resources available to help us accomplish that goal. Sure, it takes time and financial investment, but any good thing is worth it! Don’t delay. The clock is ticking!

Bahar would love to connect with any of our listeners. You can find her on Social Media on Facebook and Instagram, and visit her website at BeautyTangent.com. She offers consultations for anyone seeking to enhance their initial impression, prepare for a public event, or seek that deeper growth in beauty from the inside out.

Risk It

risk it

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” As you may know, I’m a big fan of Mrs. Roosevelt. So many of her sentiments ring true for me, including this one.

Could I have created Remarkable Women without a dream? No. Could I have done it without believing in that dream? Certainly not! Could I have done it without risking failure? No way.

When I was a kid, every day was an adventure. I never knew what was ahead, but I knew I wanted to grab life by the horns. I was so ready to grow up! Can you relate?

When I did grow up, I faced many obstacles – high school, college, the dreaded first break-up, the “dream job” I yearned for, and so on. That’s when I realized that growing up is hard work. With the freedom of being an adult comes risk and responsibility.

Here is my favorite part about real growth, though: There are no limits. Growth is not just about our age; it’s about our character and personality. We get to become better versions of ourselves every year – every day, even. Fortunately, I learned this pretty early on. I learned that growth is good, and the only thing standing in my way was myself!

Though I already had a decade-long career in real estate, I didn’t feel completely fulfilled. I didn’t really know what I was looking for, or what was even out there, because I had just stayed in my comfort zone. I could have let fear guide me, just as I had so many other times in my life. But I decided to get out of my own way and get to the other side of the fear.

So, I took a leap to allow possibility to feed my soul – and it started with something so simple: a casual meeting with a friend whose energy I loved. That one conversation opened my eyes to new possibilities, and it led me to creating a physical space – “a remarkable space” – where I could continue to explore my wants and needs.

Little did I know at the time, that space led me on a journey to creating Remarkable Women and the blog you’re reading right now.

The moral of my story is this: When we get out of our own way, there’s no telling where we can soar. When we embrace risk, every day becomes an adventure!

Women Finding Happiness

Screen Shot 2017-08-01 at 1.50.19 PMAre you happy?

Would you describe yourself as a happy person? Do you find yourself chasing happiness only to find that when you’ve arrived, it is fleeting and dissipates quickly?

Join us for the third and final podcast in our series, “Are You a Fierce Woman?” with life coach and author Cindy Battino as she shares keen insights around these questions. It has been such a treat to meet with Cindy to discuss “Women Feeling Enough,” and “What Does It Look Like to Be Fierce” in our previous interviews, and this one sure felt like a grand finale in this trio series!

I’m sure every woman will walk away with a special takeaway from Cindy’s insights. She dispels four myths that we all seem to believe in our quest for happiness. She reminds us that we are the only ones responsible for our happiness. We can’t give that power to someone else because they don’t know what to do with it! It has to start and end with us. In doing so, we learn that happiness is more of an inner choice and commitment versus an emotion based on outside circumstances or people.

Cindy encourages us all to choose one small thing to try to start doing in our pursuit of happiness and offers us five ideas and many concrete suggestions around each idea.

For example, she says that we should “Own what we’ve been given.” God made us all, and He doesn’t make mistakes. So each of us are perfectly imperfect, and we should allow ourselves the compassion and confidence in order to accept it. If we are Type A, driven, risk-takers, own it and go after your goals with fierceness. If we are careless dreamers who are periodically late or “messy,” own it and embrace the creativity and freedom you offer the world. Learn to accept a compliment graciously, and stop apologizing for the perceived “negative” aspects of your personality. They are part of the whole package that makes you uniquely you!

Cindy has a history of helping and teaching others in a powerful way. She is a life coach, dancer, personal trainer, speaker, author, and life changer. She encourages a positive and intentional life for her clients and helps them discover truth in safe environment through compassion, love, and acceptance.

She has a special program called, Love is a Verb that would be a perfect fit for any listeners seeking to embrace a new level of happiness and purpose in their lives. It’s a journey that requires a tribe of loving supporters. She is offering this 10-month program at a special rate for our listeners at $74.99/month (normally $99) and encourages you to grab a girlfriend or two and embark on the journey together. Contact her here and make sure to mention this Remarkable Women Podcast for the discount.

Remarkable Women Podcast – Naheed Oberfeld

Screen Shot 2017-07-07 at 12.14.27 PM.png
naheed oberfeldNaheed Oberfeld is a Remarkable Woman from Rockville, MD. She has had a full career of working as an analyst, at the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, as a consultant for Ernst & Young, and now as a business coach in her own company. I really enjoyed connecting with Naheed and hearing her journey to pursuing something professionally that she truly enjoys.

Today, she gets to combine her Psychology degree, her experience in Corporate America, and her own experience and training with EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to really help people uncover the things that may be blocking them from achieving all of their dreams. She works with business owners and executives and gives them the tools they need to figure out how to work through their “blocks.”

During our interview, Naheed shared great wisdom that she learned from her own challenges. During her 30’s she had been driving so hard, that she came to a point where she knew something would break down emotionally or physically at the rate she was going. She learned the importance of prioritizing a beautiful balance between work and family life and decided to maintain that balance as much as she could and sought out new tools to do so. We spoke a lot about a woman’s need to appear perfect, or to put on a positive show. Naheed walks us through the faulty beliefs that trigger those emotions and suggests some steps in gaining freedom from the need of others’ opinions, whether positive or negative.

This was a most unique Podcast for Remarkable Women listeners in that Naheed actually walks us through a unique experience during the Podcast – an “Inner Journey Exercise” where she guides us through a powerful visualization technique in an attempt to uncover any underlying faulty beliefs. This is not an exercise in self-judgment. On the contrary, we just want to look at our emotions and triggers honestly so that we can deal with them and then release them and let go.

You’ll want to listen in so that you can walk through the exercise for yourself. If you’d like to connect with Naheed personally, she welcomes it. Her website, Oberfield Coaching is a great place to start.

marcy lambert pellegrinoMarcy Lambert-Pellegrino is a Remarkable Woman living Tampa, FL. Marcy is a busy creative, owning two companies, Sassi Creative Agency and Two Girl Productions, hosting a Podcast, and enjoying her family. She is used to the fast paced, creative world of New York City where she used to live and always has new ideas and projects in the fire.

Marcy is passionate about seeing people choose a positive mindset, about having their own perspective and owning it. She helps people to do that as a creative empath, through her FaceBook Group, “Love, Light, Energy,” and through her businesses, particularly Two Girl Productions which helps athletes and entertainers with their branding and PR. She and her best friend Kate, even have a TV show that is in the works! In addition, she is writing a children’s book for kids with OCD, ODD, and ADD/ADHD. She is one busy woman!

Moving to Florida recently was a challenge for Marcy. The slower paced life was relaxing for a bit, but she was missing the energy that comes from collaborating frequently with other creatives. Thankfully, she was able to push through the slump by connecting with people all over the country who shared her same energy.

Marcy shared two pieces of key advice with us:

  • Everything is an opportunity – Even those situations that don’t always look like it initially. They may offer a new friendship, a key lesson, or an important insight or idea. If we expect it, we will usually see them.
  • Trust your instincts – It steers us well. We just have to believe it even though our brain and logic may be telling us something different. Don’t do something out of fear. Trust your gut.

You can connect with Marcy via LinkedIn and her website where you will find more information about her Podcast and upcoming projects. She’d love to connect with you!

Remarkable Women Podcast – Tina Corner

Tina Corner is a Remarkable Woman living in the DC area. She is the founder of LX Council, a company that specializes in coordinating Peer Advisory Groups for C-Suite Executives and Owners around the country. She has a passion for helping owners find that place where they can share their struggles in a safe environment for constructive feedback and encouragement.

Tina shares her career story of how she started Leadership Exchange Council after growing and selling a franchise of peer advisory groups geared more toward closely held firm owners. Growing up on a farm in rural Missouri herself, and watching her dad being in charge of his own destiny gave her great inspiration to chart her own path as well.

Tina shared how most owners feel pretty alone. They are always giving out – to employees and to vendors, etc, but they need ways to receive new energy for themselves. When they come to the Peer Advisory Group meetings, they can know that they are not alone, and they do not feel judged. They benefit most when they can be honest and real, as they will receive the greatest clarity.

As a business owner, I was fascinated and inspired by our whole conversation. I have come to personally see the value in seeking out other business owners as peer advisors who are not even necessarily in my industry. We share common experiences and appreciate the insights and perspective gleaned from each other.

Listen in to our Podcast to hear about one of the obstacles Tina faced and overcame within her career. She learned an important lesson about “Speaking Up” for her own value in a way that was well-received. She had an executive advisor who coached her through the process, and proved to be invaluable.

Tina’s personal mission is quite inspiring:

“Seize each day in developing my own potential and developing the potential in others.”

She does this by seeking knowledge and motivation regularly through reading Business Publications like Success Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, and the Podcast MWF Motivation, in addition to listening to the stories and struggles of her own clients. She learns a great deal from them and loves seeing them benefit from connecting with other peers.

Tina has written a book, Sit Down! Speak Up! Cash In! Which shares more about the value of Peer Advisory groups. You can find it on her website and also find other articles and info from Tina via LinkedIn. She would love to connect with you.

Remarkable Connections in Summer

FullSizeRender 5.jpg

As much fun as it is to go off on summer adventures around the world, it can be just as memorable to stay close to home with the ones you love and take advantage of those long, lazy sunny days. Find a porch and a friend, grab a mimosa or glass of lemonade, and settle in to a cozy conversation, catching up about the busy year.

Most of us run at 90 miles an hour during the year, juggling work, family, exercise, school, and volunteering.  It can be exhausting! Summer is perfect for taking that time to be refreshed and restored – to reconnect with our family and friends in a way that we can’t when we are just running from one place to the next.

Don’t let this time pass you by! Put dates on the calendar for yourself and your kids if they are at home with you. Meet at a lake or pool, and let the kids get lost in play for hours while you connect with your bestie.

Some things you can make sure to touch base about:

  1. How’s your health? As we get older, it seems like there is always something big or little that’s nagging at us. Most of try to figure it out on our own or play it off to be no big deal. But usually these things don’t just affect us physically, but emotionally as well. Take time to ask and really listen, offering help where you can.
  2. How is your family? No one likes to admit when they are having “issues” as a wife or mom. But let’s be honest. Relationships are messy, even with the ones we love the most. It usually helps to talk about things with a friend before they feel too overwhelming. Be that voice of encouragement, perspective, and wisdom for a friend, and accept it if that’s what you need yourself.
  3. How’s your heart? “What have you been learning about? What new things are you up to? What does the next year look like for you and how can I help?” – are all great questions to ask. These are the fun things to talk about that we usually don’t get to share in passing between soccer practice or PTA meetings.

IMG_3454These questions can all certainly be answered with “fine.” But if we settle for that, we miss out on those remarkable conversations that happen when we really take the time to slow down and dig deep. That’s what summer can do for you if you let it! Make it remarkable for yourself, family, and friends.

Remarkable Adventures

spello

Summer is the best time to let down our hair and take advantage of the season of travel that the typical school cycle affords us. Most people experience an eagerness and yearning for freedom when June rolls around, regardless of our age.

When younger, I would enjoy those long summer hours, swimming and playing outside with friends, creating our own storylines and exploring new places around my home. Now as an older woman, I look forward to travel all around the world with my family and friends. Currently, I am exploring Rome and Italy!

There’s just something about travel that makes us feel REMARKABLE. I think because we are out of our normal, typically mundane life and work, and living eyes wide open to new places, people, foods, and experiences. We get a bigger perspective on our own little piece of the world and ideally some inspiration we can take home to adopt into our way of living.

We tend to approach each morning on a vacation with the attitude of, “What am I going to get to do and see today?!” It’s always a positive expectation.

So, if you can make it happen, I’d recommend making travel a high priority in your life. Even if it’s a weekend day trip to a local State Park, Historic Site or new glamping spot – it’s worth the effort to block off the time on your calendar and hit the road. I bet you will feel refreshed, restored, and more remarkable than ever!

Inspirational Wall Art for Women

remarkable_collection_grande_b56aecaa-26e7-499a-ac42-7d0455305adc_grande__49520.1478115195.500.659When I first saw the hand-lettered wooden scripture signs sold by Leslee Matthews (Signs of Abundant Life on Instagram and Etsy), I knew I had to have one. Leslee produces these beautiful signs with her own hands. That includes hand-cutting the wood; staining, sanding, and painting it; meticulously hand-lettering it, and finally, rubbing it with a finishing wax.

As Leslee says, “I am intimately involved every step of the way and it is a huge investment of love!”

I immediately identified with that sentiment and knew that these signs would fit right into in my Remarkable Women Store. I had long been on the hunt for an inspiring, positive, and meaningful piece that women could give to one another; Leslee’s creations checked each of those boxes!

I connected with Leslee and the Remarkable Women Wall Art Collection was born. We came up with four pieces designed to be displayed either as a set or individually. With remarkable women in mind, we created something that inspires each day by reminding us who we are and what is most important in life.

I wanted this collection to be something you could buy for yourself or as a special gift for the women in your life—friends, mothers, daughters, sisters, colleagues, mentors, and so on.

The Strength and Dignity Large Wood Sign features one of my favorite quotes in gold lettering: “She is Clothed with Dignity and Laughs Without Fear of the Future.” I think this is a great reminder for us all to keep this attitude in life— eager and optimistic for the future, strong and courageous inside.

The three smaller signs, which are each 3.5 by four inches, feature the words “Be Grateful,” “Be Remarkable,” and “Be a Dreamer,” respectively. My favorite, as you could probably guess, is the Be Remarkable Small Wood Sign. We are all remarkable, and yet we often need to be reminded to live into that reality intentionally—especially on days when life feels either mundane or overwhelming.

No matter which one you pick, these messages make unique gifts for friends or colleagues; give them for birthdays, a new home or new job, or just as a thoughtful surprise. My wall art collection is also a wonderful way to treat yourself. Hang one of the small signs in the bathroom to help you greet the day, or cluster a few of them on your desk at work.

Better yet, buy the whole collection and hang it over your bed for some much needed self-assurance both day and night.

I’m so grateful to Leslee for making the Remarkable Women wall art collection possible. We hope that these pieces bring you and your loved ones the inspiration and joy that they have brought us!

Inspiring Through Writing

writing

This blog has always been a labor of love. Believe it or not, writing is not my favorite thing to do. I have all these thoughts that I want to get out, but it’s surprisingly difficult to make the words fit what I really want to say. Still, I’ve persevered because this blog is such an important part of what I’m doing with Remarkable Women.

I made my very first entry in this blog in March 2015. In Allow Possibility to Feed Your Soul, I wrote about how I made changes in my life that led to personal fulfillment and satisfaction – and also sparked the idea for Remarkable Women. Even after that, I didn’t post regularly in the blog. In fact, I didn’t even post once a month.

Fast forward to now, and I’m writing and posting a new blog every week. That change alone shows just how far I’ve come since I began this initiative – since I made the decision to open myself up to new people, possibilities, and experiences.

I’m here to tell you that you, too, can effect this type of change in your life. It’s all about your mindset.

Every day, I am prepared to make meaningful connections. Not only am I open to them, I seek them out.

I seek them out when I’m speaking at business events. I seek them out when I’m recording my podcast. And I seek them out when I’m writing this blog and responding to readers like you.

I believe the highest way to learn is to take each moment of your life and realize that what matters is to live it fully. This means you’re growing. I hope that Remarkable Women is helping you to find your own inspiration just as it has helped me find mine.
